pattern and product trends 2010

Geometrics, floral, geo-florals dominate. The lines between inside and out blur.

GEOMETRICS
Geometrics will dominate the home & gift décor world with stripes and geo-floral patterns making a huge comeback. The trend is expected to triple in popularity from last year and when it comes to trendsetting, industry experts cite the reason as these patterns being incredibly versatile. From formal to whimsical, stripes are great elements in contributing to the perfect space that doesn’t fade away to the background.

While minimalism ruled the last few years, people want to make statements; and personal statements at that. As a whole, the previous trend and shift was minimalism that equalled sparse.

› With these new trends, we’re seeing more people drawn back to the warmth of bold patterns and colors in their environment and with their accessories.

Geometrics can include shapes (circles, squares, stripes, patterns), in any room, and on any accessory. Whether it’s the throw pillow, the wine goblet or the coffee container, stripes are in!

Geometrics are versatile enough to take center stage, or simply cheer their surroundings from the background

You’ll see geometrics and stripes appear in many forms and functions; from a clean and bold perspective, to a multi-colored French influence in every room of the house. From accented, to the primary focus of a room. Whether it’s the living room, porch or kitchen, these trends will reveal themseleves througout the house. Stripes lend themselves to creating statements but are versatile enough to blend in and shift the focus to any other element you desire.

FLORALS
Delicate and subtle or bold and bright flowers!

Florals are making a comeback to the tune of doubling from last year. In many forms, they are popping up in accessories and accents from the tabletop to textiles. Whether bold and bright or subtle against another bold detail, we’ll see more and more contributing to the desire to add warmth. Since minimalism took the stage, the floral trend is softening up the harshness of too many rigid elements in the home.

Trends include the transparency between inside and out. As we move forward, accessories you may have previously expected to see in the ‘sun room’, will make it to the ‘living room’. This trend is related to the overall need to create comfort, warmth, and to extend spaces to create an overall ‘feel’ and experience.

No more plastic in the garden, thank you.

The porch comes inside, and the living space out! Transparency between rooms will dominate.

GEOMETRIC FLORALS
A combined element of both current trends will continue to reveal itself moving forward in many products. Like yin and yang. Strong bold lines meet strong bold floral and together they make a statement. On the other hand, soft geometric florals, whether in shape, texture or color, can perfectly complement any environment or table setting.

Geometrics and florals combine gracefully together and can be a part, or a whole statement. Combine for example, a beautiful table setting with a bold circle placemat, a geo-floral wine glass, a neutral dinner plate, and a bold stripe salad dish. What do you get? Subtlety aligned with boldness equals a clean, fresh, statement.

Set the table mixing a bold circle placemat, a geo-floral wine goblet, a neutral color dinner plate with a bold stripes salad bowl and you get a clean, fresh statement!

Don’t be afraid to mix your textures. Use color as the driving palette for your selection then happily introduce your geometrics and florals. More than ever, people crave an experience in their environment and as we see these trends take place, we'll see more and more products following theses guidelines.
